The Life That We Built,

A Love Story
A thought-provoking and emotionally charged autobiography that explores the dynamic of human relationships, the heartfelt journey of a brotherhood, and the dramatic moments of betrayal.

It is a gripping drama series that tells the story of three streetwise hustlers,

from different backgrounds, that form a bond while working as bouncers at a premier disco nightclub & restaurant called “Dingbats”, located on Chicago’s gold coast, during the Black Power era of the 1970s. They become brothers, form businesses, and become local celebrities in the world of nightclubs, until boundaries are crossed, and the brotherhood is shattered.

This autobiography collective is packed with emotions,

and funny as heck with tons of infectious energy and larger than life personalities. The Life That We Built is a Love Story amongst three black men in the 1970s, filled with moments of redemption and authenticity. Enjoy.
The Life We Built book cover

What a ride “The Life We Built” takes you on. The mirrored ball trip back to the 70’s club Dingbats would be enough-it makes Manhattan’s Studio 54 seem like a church dance-but all that fun Sodom and Gomorrahizing takes a back seat in this Lincoln Mark V of a memoir.

I didn’t seem coming the poignant and touching memories of strong self-made black men finding their ways in Chicago’s mean streets. It is a story of resilience, respect and overcoming adversity.

Add in the making of Mr T, a lifetime of betrayal and his ultimate comeuppance and you’ll be slapping the soul handshake to everyone in sight.

It is that good.

Bitoy, I’m on page 37 of the book and it is an eye opener. I appreciate the fact that Crystal wrote the story with you and Calvin’s heart and spirit intact. All I ask is that you all make sure whatever film production shoots your film they exhibit the same accountability and care. I’m proud of you guys for telling it like it is because, I’m coming right behind you all, so keep pressing on. This is our history we telling. Straight no chaser.
